Coco-grams!

Image
The Kennedy robotics team sold holiday Coco-grams in the foyer this week for $1 a piece. In a Coco-gram, there is a hot chocolate package, two peppermint candy canes, and a piece of chocolate of your choice. You can even pick a cute label to write your friends name on. I bought two Coco-grams for my friends. One of my friends I gave a Coco-gram to was excited about it because she was hungry and felt happy to be getting a gift, even if it was small.     I talked to one of the robotics team members Austin Strait. I asked why they decided to use Coco-grams to raise money and Austin said: "We had a lot of it sitting in our rooms and we found extra candy canes and candy." A goal the robotics team was to raise enough money to buy new equipment and parts. They needed new parts so they could complete all the tasks that their robot faced at Rover Ruckus. Rover Ruckus is a place where robots are challenged by having to do a task like picking something up and move it or so...

Media Law And Fake News Synthesis and Reflection

Media Law You ever wonder who those "anonymous" sources are? I certainly couldn't tell you who, nobody except the writers know but they can't. Media law. Heard of it? Ever wonder why that is? It is the group of are laws in place to protect journalist, the sources, and even the story. Media law is consistent of many smaller laws. Laws like Libel, Invasion of Privacy, Shield Law, and Obscenity. Libel is when a publication was false, and it damaged someone’s reputation or image. To prevent that try to use cation when stating something as a fact and be 100% honest. This is important because if I choose pursue journalism in the future wouldn't want to make myself seem discreditable, hurt someone, and there are punishments for hurting someone’s reputation. Like libel is invasion of privacy. Invasion of privacy. is when you give inaccurate information, trespassing, or using pictures that were unwanted. I learned from this that I can't go anywhere I want, and I...

GL

Group Members - Lina, Hailey, Travis,  Aleksyia , Gannon.   Author's note:   ~We typed this in size 12  font,  so you could annotate.   ~It was hard to get more information because GL had left for New York as we were working.   ~We said " he" quite a bit .   ~We struggled to work together well because of how off topic we get.   ~We feel like our quotes are  well written.   “I became a real student and buckled down”, Gary Lindsay, commonly referred to as GL by my Intro to Media class was average in high school. He didn’t do his homework very often, resulting in mediocre grades. Regardless, standardized test showed how much he academically excelled. He didn’t have many friends due to the fact that he left his old town and moved to Mason City in 5th grade. Mason City is a small, tight-knit community in Iowa, and by the time he moved there everyone had already made their clicks. While growing up, ...

Homeless Night at Kennedy High School

“You’re paying to sleep in a box? Is that what I’m hearing?” Areigna Ralston, a fellow student at Kennedy high School replied when I asked her what she thought about Homeless night.   Many people don’t realize this, but there are a lot of homeless people. In Iowa alone, there are around 1,500 individuals and 1,256 families homeless, not even in shelters. Although Iowa has affordable housing, not all people can get a house that fits their needs and is affordable. Kennedy is doing something to help change that. No, they aren’t going to sleep in a box, but they will camp around Kennedy. They are going to help raise money and awareness for shelters, so they can provide for more people that need help. When I first heard about this, I thought this was a joke! I thought kids were just going to mock homeless people, which I felt was rude. When I later found out about the true reason for this, I discovered what an amazing idea this was. Not only was it helping others, it was raising awa...

Kourtney Cole

I talked to Kourtney yesterday, and learned a little bit about her. When we were talking she mentioned she had a twin. I asked her if she was a fraternal or identical twin, but she was unsure because she had never been tested to see.  Kourtney also has two cute dogs which she loves. One dog is a Yellow Lab Retriever named buddy, and a Yellow Lab named Manny. Kourtney is the middle child in her family. She has one older sister, and one younger sister. She is the younger twin. She went to Harding middle school, but now goes to Kennedy High School. She is in Japanese and Intro To Media And Journalism. She is very enjoyable to talk to and I hope to learn more about her later.

Nike Controversy

“How to burn our product properly”, Nike released in a statement. Nike and Colin Kaepernick recently launched a campaign that caused controversy. Kaepernick is a NFL football player who started a movement of kneeling during the national anthem. That movement was very controversial, many people were talking about this and it sparked many discussions at the time. Currently they are getting more support than hate. Colin Kaepernick's decisions clash with Donald Trump's opinions. ‘“‘What was Nike thinking? Trump asked in a tweet after the campaign launched””. Trump called Nike's Campaign “a terrible” message in a interview  with Daily Caller. “ maybe there’s a reason for them doing it, but i think as far as sending a message, i think it’s a terrible message and a message that shouldn’t be sent. There is no reason for it.” that wasn’t the only thing he had to say, “ Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger ...

Serena Williams

“The amount of control men feel the need to exert over women is petty-level with this one” actress Elizabeth Banks stated in a tweet, but what is she talking about? She was talking about sexism in tennis. You may be thinking “Why in tennis? Why should this matter?”, well imagine playing in a grand slam showdown, then having to pay $17,000 in fines against you for calling someone out… This because   a reality to Serena Williams, when she was fined for smashing her racket, and for calling the umpire a thief. What came before all of this? The umpire giving a penalty warning saying Serena was being illegally coached. “He’s never taken a game from a man because they said “thief”. For me it blows my mind. But i’m going to continue to fight for women.” Serena stated at a news conference. Not only has Serena struggled with penalties, she has been dress coded for wearing a catsuit. The catsuit was to help her blood circulation because she had a hard time giving birth. At t...
