Author's note:
  • ~We typed this in size 12 font, so you could annotate.
  • ~It was hard to get more information because GL had left for New York as we were working.
  • ~We said "he" quite a bit.

  • ~We struggled to work together well because of how off topic we get.
  • ~We feel like our quotes are well written.
“I became a real student and buckled down”, Gary Lindsay, commonly referred to as GL by my Intro to Media class was average in high school. He didn’t do his homework very often, resulting in mediocre grades. Regardless, standardized test showed how much he academically excelled. He didn’t have many friends due to the fact that he left his old town and moved to Mason City in 5th grade. Mason City is a small, tight-knit community in Iowa, and by the time he moved there everyone had already made their clicks.
While growing up, GL enjoyed playing sports. In high school he was a starter on his school football team but even though he enjoyed football, basketball was always his first love. "The main reason I played football is because I got cut from the basketball team four years in a row.” Although GL was better than some of the players, he wasn’t the first choice. The coach had already had his players lined up. The players on the team had more experience  due to practicing and participating in clubs and cams during the offseason. Although GL would be a great asset to the team the coach and wasn’t wanting to replace one of the ten players with GL.  “They soon regretted only having ten players on their team, when a player got injured. They could have used me then.”  GL had friends on the basketball team and rather himself to get cut instead of his friends. GL wasn’t too upset over this though.
Aside from basketball and football, he ran for his school the track team and went out for wrestling. The basketball coach begged GL to wrestle, and he thought it sounded horrible. He decided to try wrestling, but it turned out to be just as bad as he thought so he quit after only one week. He later went on to play recreational basketball until he was in his mid- 50s.
Music has always been a large part of GL’s life. By college he had already played almost every brass instrument. Aside of just instruments, he also is very devoted to singing. He sings bass in a barbershop acapella group called the Harmony Hawks and is currently president. He often sings for his church which he enjoys. He enjoys folk and folk country, as well as contemporary and other simple styles. He is also very appreciative of songs that are written and sang by the same person. Susan Warner is someone he admires because she sings and writes her own music.
For college GL graduated from UNI with a masters in English education and worked on college publications. He later went on to teach Journalism and LA for 40 years, between 1971 and retiring in 2011. In 1970 he married his long time-girlfriend and they had two kids. He enjoys traveling which is good because his daughter lives in Switzerland and his son in New York.

GL was involved in church congregation since he was young. He was baptized as an infant and goes to church every Sunday. He is a part of his church choir and is a member of the hiring department there. He has before doubted his career as a teacher/journalist. When he first started it was hard, but he stuck with it because he believed God wanted him to. As of right now GL is proud of what he has made of his life and is now doing what he enjoys most.
